Are you ready to travel to The Strip? Anxious about planning a Vegas Vacation with little kids? While I have traveled to Las Vegas with and without kids, I’m going to share about our Las Vegas adventure with a baby and little kid!
Las Vegas is an easy-to-access city (many direct flights) in the hot desert of Nevada. It gets hot, but it’s also the desert so there may be cooler evenings. Be prepared with light clothing layers, sunglasses, and suntan lotion.
Las Vegas has many things to do, on The Strip, downtown, and the surrounding areas (Red Rock Canyon and Seven Magic Mountains).
Where to stay?
As you plan your trip, recognize that while the buildings on The Strip appear close together, it takes a lot of time to get from one building to the next! With heavy traffic, the city built numerous skywalks for safe pedestrian access across the city; however, it takes time to go up and down escalators, elevators, and stairs when just trying to get next door. The lobbies of the hotels are enormous, and the parking entrances, valet areas, or front landscaping can be widespread.
I prefer hotels on The Strip, but parking can be expensive, and if you’re planning to spend more time off of The Strip, choosing a different location may save you time and money. On The Strip, there are numerous nice hotels. With little kids, I’d pick a central location to make it easy to see everything without spending too much time walking. (While I love exercise and a good long-distance walk, this city is more congested so it’s not necessarily a speed walk down the street, but dodging tourists, salespeople, cars…and navigating sidewalks and sky walks.)
If you want to spend time by your hotel pool, check into how much they charge for extra amenities. While you might find a hotel for a great deal, many charge hefty fees for poolside lounge chairs, cabanas, umbrellas, or rafts. Also consider if it’s a family-oriented pool, beach, or lazy river, or if it’s more adult-oriented with swim-up bars and nightlife.
Our kids loved the lazy river at the pool, and we bought our own inner tubes at the store across the street.
